Harvey Milk was an American politician who broke barriers as the first openly gay elected official in California. In the 1970s, he served as a city supervisor in San Francisco. Despite rampant homophobia, Milk garnered widespread popularity, becoming a leader in the Gay Rights Movement. Sadly, however, he was assassinated in 1978 by a disgruntled and homophobic former colleague. Yet Milk’s legacy still had a wide-ranging impact. His public interviews and political action helped broaden the Gay Rights Movement. In this volume, editor Vince Emery compiles transcripts of dozens of Milk’s public-facing interviews. It is one of the first books to provide first-hand context into Milk’s legacy. Emery writes New Journalist-style sections as well, bringing the events of Harvey Milk’s life into vivid detail. The Harvey Milk Interviews is subsequently an important text on the legacy of this major American activist. It ensures his short career remains accessible and emphasized into the twenty-first century. This first edition, first printing is inscribed by Emery on the introduction title. It is in fine condition. In the original cloth, fine. Text block very nearly fine, only a few pages creased at the corner. In the original dust jacket, fine. A scarce first edition The Harvey Milk Interviews inscribed by the editor.
