American musician Janis Joplin was an icon of the 1960s Counterculture and one of the greatest artists of her era. With performances at the Monterey Pop Festival, Woodstock, and elsewhere, Joplin garnered a reputation as a captivating performer. Her covers “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Piece of My Heart,” and “Cry Baby” remain some of the most recognizable music from the period. She recorded outstanding original songs, too, but sadly her life was cut short by a heroin overdose in 1970 at the age of 27. In this biography by Myra Friedman, Janis Joplin’s life and career are recounted in exquisite detail. Friedman ultimately captures the sadness and tragedy of Joplin’s brief but influential career. The book was released just a few years after Joplin’s death. It is the most important biography on Joplin ever published. This first edition, first printing is in about-fine condition. In the original quarter cloth, near-fine with only minor rubbing to edges. Text block very good, only some foxing and soiling to edges. In the original dust jacket, about-fine with only minor bumping and rubbing. An about-fine first edition of Janis Joplin’s authoritative biography.
